Raipur: Former Chhattisgarh CM and state veteran Ajit Jogi has suffered a major setback. His tribal identity has once again raised questions. In fact, Jogi's tribals identity has been questioned. A committee was set up in this regard. The committee refused to treat Jogi as a Scheduled Tribe. The committee rejected his claim to be tribal. The veteran leader, who has set up his own political party, accused the committee of working under the influence of CM Bhupesh Baghel.
He announced to challenge the decision of the committee in the High Court. Jogi said it was not the High Power Scrutiny Committee but the Bhupesh Baghel High Power Committee. The committee has also clarified that the benefit of ST will no longer be eligible for Jogi. The report is seen as a major setback for the former chief minister as it is bound to have an impact on caste certificates as well as his political career. Jogi is currently an MLA from Marwahi seat.
There is speculation that the seat could now go out of his hands after the report. On the report of the committee, a senior Congress government official said that former CM Jogi could not produce documents and evidence in support of his claim. In 2011, the supreme court had directed the then BJP government in Chhattisgarh to set up a committee to find out the caste of former IAS officer Jogi. In June 2017, the committee did not consider Jogi as a tribal in its investigation. Jogi went to court against this decision. While the High Court set up a high-powered Scrutiny Committee to look into the matter. In recent elections, Jogi could not do much.
