Raipur: A case of death of elephant due to electrocution has been reported in Jashpur city of Chhattisgarh. Even before this, reports of elephant deaths due to electric shock have been reported in the state. The elephant died due to the current flowing in the fence. This incident is of Jhiliberna village under Tapakra police station area.

According to the information received, Ranjit Kispotta, a resident of this village, laid a current flowing wire in the fence of his house. Between Thursday and Friday, an elephant wandering away from the party in this area fell into its grip. He died on the spot due to the current. After receiving information about the incident, the forest department team including Tapakara ranger Abhinav Kesarwani reached the spot.

During the interrogation, Ranjit, the accused, confessed that he had kept the current flowing wire in the fence. Since 2013, he has been doing this to save crops from elephants. The accused in the case is being taken action as per the Wildlife Protection Act. This is the second incident of elephant death in the district within three months. Earlier, a pregnant elephant was killed in Narayanpur in the state.
