Officials claimed on Tuesday that three Naxals were detained and two others surrendered to police in the Dantewada and Bijapur districts of Chhattisgarh's Bastar division. Two of the three Naxals were arrested in Bijapur, while the third was nabbed in the Dantewada area, police said.
"A Maoist identified as Linga Mandavi (25), who was carrying a Rs 10,000 bounty on his head, was captured on Monday by a joint team of DRG (District Reserve Guards) and the District Force from Badegudra hamlet inside the Kuakonda police station boundaries," according to the statement. Dantewada Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallava said. Mandavi was active as a Naxal Militia member in Badegudra, he added.
Separately, police and security personnel in the Bijapur district detained two Maoists, named Ramesh Hemla (20) and Arjun Punem (19), according to Superintendent of Police Kamlochan Kashyap. They were apprehended by a joint CRPF-police squad in the Cherpal-Padera forests, within the city boundaries of the Kotwali police station, he added.
A detonator was recovered from them, the SP said. "They confessed that (self-proclaimed) LOS commander Dinesh Podiyam ordered them to plant the detonator on the Cherpal culvert and conduct recce of people passing it," Kashyap added.
