Lucknow: A gang rape case in Hathras in Uttar Pradesh was heard in the supreme court of the country on Tuesday. The UP government was asked to hand over the case to the CBI and monitor the court. But Chief Justice S.A. Bobdey also commented on the case, saying the case was shocking.

During the hearing, the Chief Justice said that we are hearing the matter immediately because it is a shocking case. The court asked the lawyer on behalf of the women lawyers if we believe that this is a shocking incident, but why did you not go to the Allahabad High Court? The CJI said why not hear the matter first, as the debate may take place here. Tushar Mehta, who appeared before the court on behalf of the government, said that some people have asked the family to pay them a compensation of Rs 50 lakh.

During the hearing, the court sought a response from the UP government to protect the aggrieved party, witnesses, against which the government has asked for filing an affidavit by tomorrow. The apex court said the victim's family will decide the safety of witnesses whether the investigation into hathras case is going to be corrected.
