Raipur: CM Bhupesh Baghel has appealed for an increase of 2 per cent to 14 per cent royalty currently being received by the states on coal. Baghel, along with Union Coal and Mining Minister Prahlad Joshi, took a firm stand on the interests of the states in the virtual meeting on Friday. Appealing to the royalty rate to be raised to 16 per cent, Baghel demanded that the basic cell prices be announced every month. It declares Basic Pride Coal India. He said the Union Government needs to look at the issue of royalty as a whole. The coal-producing states are incurring losses.

He said that a large quantity of fine iron ore is deliberately produced in the mines. Due to the huge difference in the royalty of fines, the State Government suffers a huge loss in royalty.
