Raipur: CM Bhupesh Baghel has appealed for an increase of 2 per cent to 14 per cent royalty currently being received by the states on coal. Baghel, along with Union Coal and Mining Minister Prahlad Joshi, took a firm stand on the interests of the states in the virtual meeting on Friday. Appealing to the royalty rate to be raised to 16 per cent, Baghel demanded that the basic cell prices be announced every month. It declares Basic Pride Coal India. He said the Union Government needs to look at the issue of royalty as a whole. The coal-producing states are incurring losses.

The same CM appealed to the mines to increase the rates of coal royalty and notify the royalty rates of Run of Mines (ROM) of iron ore from the mines. He said that a large quantity of fine iron ore is deliberately produced in the mines. Due to the huge difference in the royalty of fines, the State Government suffers a huge loss in royalty.

The same CM appealed to the Union Minister to provide the additional levy amount imposed on coal blocks of the state's share at the earliest of Rs 4169.86 crore. The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Forest Manoj Kumar Pingua, Secretary, Department of Mineral Resources Siddharth Komal Singh Pardeshi, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Rakesh Chaturvedi and Director Mineral Resources Jayprakash Maurya.
