Congress to get new president soon, will command go out of Gandhi family?

New Delhi: The Congress party is yet to announce its new national president. Several veteran leaders have demanded that the process be completed expeditiously so that the party gets new leadership in time. Now in the same vein, the party has started preparations. The virtual meeting, which is being held today, 9th and 10th, is said to be attended by the General Secretaries of all states and the Presidents of the State Unit. The virtual meeting is now being convened at a time when pressure is mounting within the party over internal elections.

Elections have been postponed for the last two years for some reason or the other. But now party leaders say that the election will be held in time and the party will get its new president by September. In this regard, The Party's Central Election Authority President Madhusudan Mistry said that the party will complete its internal election process within the stipulated time. There's not going to be any delay. There is a weekend curfew in Delhi and that is why we are meeting through video conferencing.

According to the Central Election Authority's schedule, the process of making AICC members during the first phase is to be completed by March 31. The second phase should then be AICC delegates in April-May. This is followed by the election of a State Congress Committee member in the third phase by August. Its number is about 9,000. Finally, by September, the party will get a new president, and then the AICC level will be called and the election of the new president will be sealed.
