KABUL: The Taliban has said that  China is reportedly interested in making investments in Afghanistan's oil and gas sectors. Homyaoon Afghan, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, they have made the required infrastructure available to potential investors.

The minister congratulated the investors and stated that Afghanistan is rich in gas and oil, and it is anticipated that the production of gas and oil in some places would be announced in the near future.

In an effort to strengthen the economy of Kabul, the Taliban leadership in Afghanistan reportedly inked a contract with a Chinese company in January to collect oil from the Amu Darya basin.

China and Taliban signed the agreement at a ceremony attended by high-ranking officials from both sides, including Chinese Ambassador Wang Yi. During the initial 3-year period, over USD 540 million will be invested in exploration, said the Afghanistan's acting mines and petroleum minister Shahabuddin Delawar.

The ACIM emphasised the value of foreign investment in increasing national GDP and creating jobs for Afghans.

"This is a good chance for Afghan businesses as well as for Chinese enterprises... According to Sakhi Ahmad Payman, deputy head of the Afghanistan Chamber of Industry and Mines (ACIM), this is a good chance for both Afghanistan and China.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, China reportedly made an investment of roughly USD 2 billion in Afghanistan following the overthrow of the previous administration.

China has considerable assets in the region even though no nation has formally recognised the Taliban. Afghanistan is looking for investments to strengthen its economy while its funds are still frozen.

The Taliban are not the only ones responsible for violence in Afghanistan; organisations like the Islamic State (IS) also commit violent acts. China wants to prevent Afghanistan from serving as a base for Uyghur militants and maintain domestic stability, including control over the Xinjiang region. It also wants to protect its sizeable foreign direct investments in the region, particularly the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) violence against Chinese interests has intensified as China's involvement in the area has grown. Even while China is willing to take chances, it has reacted to these occurrences to make a point.
