WestIndies’s flamboyant left-handed batter Chris Gayle on Thursday achived another milestone in his career as he became the second West Indies player to hit the iconic landmark of scoring 10,000 runs in One-day internationals after the legendary Brian Lara. He also became the first player to hit 500 international sixes.

Gayle achieved this feat against  English team while chasing the target of 419 runs. Gayle played a mindblowing knock of 162 runs off 97 deliveries as the Jamaican smashed 11 boundaries and 14 sixes en route to his mammoth ton.

Earlier in the first innings, England scored 418 for six in 50 overs following some powerful hitting by Alex Hales (82), Eoin Morgan (103) and Jos Buttler (150).

While chasing the massive target, West Indies were off to a shaky start as opener John Campbell was dismissed for just 15 runs by Mark Wood. Shai Hope followed Campbell soon after as the elegant batter was sent packing for a mere five runs. However, Darren Bravo and Gayle smashed the English bowlers for fun before the former was dismissed by Wood for 61.

In his amazing inning, Gayle also brought up his 300th ODI six while also bringing up his ton by scoring a 500th international six. He has now broke the record of Indian opener Rohit Sharma of 23 six n a bilateral ODI series by smashing 25 sixes.
