New Delhi:- Christian Mansell has explained how he is coping with racing the FIA Formula 3 Championship with type 1 diabetes. The Australian scored the first podium of his career at Silverstone last weekend and finished fifth in Sunday's race.
It was a landmark performance for the 18-year-old who is gaining a foothold in the F1 junior series. Mansell was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2019 and threatened to end his motorsport ambitions.
But since then, he's learned how to manage his condition during preparations and matches. Since receiving his diagnosis, he has risen through the ranks in the UK, finishing third in last year's Euroformula Open championship, taking three wins in the process.

"And as you know, bad things happen... The last time something bad happened to a diabetic car was when I first raced in Formula 4.
“I have a constant blood sugar monitor that I carry in my car all the time. In fact, it is physically attached to me, and I have needles in my body that monitor my blood sugar while I talk.

"But the only saving grace is that F3 is action-packed, and the adrenaline rush will spike your blood sugar, so the risk of falling is much less than usual."
