Aizawl: Mizoram's largest and most influential Presbyterian Church has decided to urge the state government to increase maternity leave for women to encourage people in its community to have more children. The resolution was passed on Saturday by representatives of the Presbyterian Church's highest decision-making authority, the Dharma Sabha Conference.

The annual dharmasabha conference held in The Republic Weng, the local church of Aizawl, from Tuesday, ended on Sunday. Most delegates from across the state said that the increase in church members and the population of Mizoram as a whole has become extremely important for their survival and prosperity. He said that the population can be increased only by having more children and one of the most important incentives is to increase the days of maternity leave for women working in the state government as an incentive.

At the same time, the delegates said that the decision to appeal to the state government to increase maternity leave for women who have more children has been accepted and the Dharam Sabha Conference has authorized the Dharma Sabha Executive Committee to take the matter forward with the state government.
