New Delhi: The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) came into force from Friday even after protests. The government has also issued a notification regarding this. CAA may have come into force now, but there are some parts of the country where this Act will not be applicable. In fact, there was tremendous opposition in the Northeast of the Citizenship Amendment Act. In many states including Assam, Meghalaya, people took to the streets. While implementing the law, the government announced that this law will not be applicable in parts of Meghalaya, Assam, Arunachal, Manipur.

The central government has issued an inner line permit here. Due to this, these rules will not apply here. The Inner Line Permit is a travel document that the Government of India issues to its citizens so that they can travel for a specified time in a protected area. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had claimed in his speech in Parliament that there are millions of people who will benefit from this law. The new law will apply to all refugees.

A cutoff date has also been set by the government that all Hindu, Jain, Buddhist, Sikh, Christian, Parsi refugees who came before 31 December 2014 will be given citizenship of India. Now Hindus, Jains, Buddhists, Sikhs, Christians, Parsi refugees coming from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan will be easy to take citizenship of India. Till now these people were considered illegal refugees.
