Lucknow: Sultanpur's MP-MLA court has set June 7 as the next hearing date for the 2018 case involving Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his alleged objectionable remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The defamation complaint was filed by former district vice president and BJP leader Vijay Mishra. Rahul Gandhi was expected to appear in court today, but his lawyer submitted an application citing the leader's engagement in the 2024 general election campaigns.

The petitioner's lawyer, Santosh Pandey, voiced objection to the adjournment. Despite the protest, the court scheduled June 7 as the next hearing date, offering Rahul Gandhi one final opportunity to appear. Advocate Santosh Pandey informed the media, stating, "Rahul Gandhi's appearance was slated for today in Sultanpur's MP-MLA court. His lawyer sought an adjournment, citing his involvement in the Lok Sabha elections 2024 campaign. I opposed it. The court has now set June 7 as the next date, granting Rahul Gandhi a final chance to appear."

Vijay Mishra, the complainant, shared his perspective with media, saying, "I was serving as the vice president of BJP when this incident occurred. Rahul Gandhi had accused Amit Shah of being a murderer during an event in Bengaluru. As a dedicated party worker, I was deeply troubled by these allegations. I filed a complaint through my lawyer, and this legal process has persisted for almost five years."
