New Delhi: Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana on Saturday (July 23, 2022) made a big revelation about his personal life. He said that he wanted to enter active politics, but perhaps his destiny had something else in the account. He said "I wanted to get involved in active politics, but there was something else written in my destiny. The decision to leave something I had worked so hard for wasn't easy at all." Over the years, I kept my career and life around people. But after joining the bench (court), you have to leave your social relations behind.

However, Ramana also said that she has no regrets about being a judge. He said the opportunity to work as a new man came with many challenges, but he did not regret it for a single day. He says it's not just a service, it's a call. He said this while delivering the inaugural address on 'Life of a Judge' at the 'Justice S B Sinha Memorial Lecture' organised by the National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi. Meanwhile, the CJI said that physical attacks on judges are on the rise these days. Without any assurance of safety or security, the judges will have to live in the same society in which they have convicted the people. CJI NV Ramana said politicians, bureaucrats, police officers and other public representatives are often given protection even after retirement due to their job sensitivity. Ironically, judges are not given the same protection.

The CJI said that on several occasions, they have highlighted the issues that remain pending. He strongly advocates the need to improve both physical and personal infrastructure to enable judges to function to their full potential. He further said that false narratives are fabricated with regard to the alleged easy life led by judges, which is difficult to bear. He said people often complain of long-pending cases at all levels of the Indian judicial system. Judges don't react immediately but don't think of it as weakness or helplessness. When freedom is exercised responsibly, there is no need for external restrictions in their territory.
