On Monday in Kokrajhar town, a new student body, the Bodo National Students' Union (BNSU), was created to work for the benefit of Bodo students. Banjit Manjil Basumatary was elected president, while Dr. Nijwmgwra Brahma was elected general secretary. The current general secretary of the Bodoland Students' Union is Banjit Manjil Basumatary (BSU).

When a team from the ABSU, Kokrajhar district committee arrived to take notice of the new student body's creation, a conflict between members of the ABSU and the newly created BNSU ensued. A heated argument erupted between the two parties. Banjit Manjil Basumatary, the new student body's president, claimed, "A bunch of ABSU members arrived at the place, created a new body, and began destroying chairs while creating a ruckus. Everyone has the right to organise democratic organisations in order to work for the betterment of society. No one has the right to object to the association's creation."

Meanwhile, the ABSU's general secretary, Khanindra Basumatary, has stated that the new organisation intends to demolish the BTR pact, which is the result of the people's movement.  The BNSU's members and leaders are from the Bodoland Students' Union (BSU), the BPF's student wing, and the formation of this body is nothing more than an attempt to divide the society and lead it in the wrong direction, he said, adding that they will not tolerate further societal division for political gain. He further claimed that members of the BNSU began attacking ABSU activists while they were on their way to discuss the formation of a new organisation, and that they were attacked by ABSU members.
