The Modi government has pursued the Swachh Bharat Mission to make India open defecation free, for which Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to the people from time to time. PM Modi had urged people to contribute to make the country free open defecation. Many big steps have also been taken by the government for this, including toilets, making people aware of the diseases caused by open defecation, as well as about crime against women due to open defecation. This also includes making the public aware.

The Government of India is constantly making efforts to make India clean. It also runs several programs like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The Government of India keeps launching various schemes from time to time to make Indian citizens aware. Similarly, the Government of India has also started a free toilet scheme for the poor families of the country. Under this, people from poor families whose economic condition is very poor and they are not able to construct toilets. For them, the Government of India is helping to build toilets at home by looking at toilet grants.

Let us tell you that in order to speed up the efforts for universal sanitation coverage and to emphasize on cleanliness, PM Modi started the Swachh Bharat Mission on October 2, 2014. The mission coordinators for the two sub-missions Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural) and Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) are the secretaries of the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation (MDWS). Paying homage to the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi,the mission was aimed to achieve clean India by the year 2019,  in which the government has been largely successful.
