New Delhi: After deliberating on the options given by the central government to the states in the GST Council meeting, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday wrote a letter to PM Modi saying that the two options given by the Union Finance Ministry, In which the states have been asked to take loans and then repay, this will put a lot of burden on the states.
Urging PM Modi to consider a legally viable option to overcome the Corona crisis, CM Kejriwal said that the GST Council should consider authorizing the Center to take loans on its behalf and from 2022 onwards The duration of cess collection should be increased. On August 27, the GST Council offered the states two options to avail loans to meet their GST revenue shortfall, as the GST cess from commodities like cars and tobacco was not enough to make up for this financial year. The Center has ordered that the state governments can either take loans through the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) or take loans from the market through a special window.
Terming the GST reform as a land reform in India's indirect tax structure, CM Arvind Kejriwal has written in the letter that assuring GST compensation to the states to meet the GST collection shortfall is one of the pillars on which The entire building of the GST rests. He also said that all the states together will remove the unprecedented situation which the corona epidemic has collectively brought before the country.
