CM Mamata will not campaign in Kolkata anymore: TMC leader Derek

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is busy campaigning for the Assembly polls since March. Lately, a tweet by TMC leader has popped up which reads that CM Mamata will not campaign any further in Kolkata. The tweet was made by All India Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien on Sunday night.


The sudden rise in fresh COVID cases in the state has curb the leaders to cancel or dismiss their rallies and campaign. Recently, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also cancelled his rallies amid the COVID-19 spoke. The TMC supremo had decided to only hold one ‘symbolic’ meeting on the last day of campaigning in the city on April 26. All the information regarding CM Banerjee’s plan was given by O’Brien. Additionally, all election rallies conducted by Banerjee in all districts of the state will not be longer than 30 minutes, he further said. The Election Commission on Friday also issued an orders regarding campaigns. EC stated that election rallies and meetings are only to be allowed between 10 am and 7 pm on all campaign days. The silence period for campaign-related gatherings was extended to 72 hours before the end of polling in the three remaining phases of the election.


Meanwhile talking about the condition of state, West Bengal has registered spike of 7,713 fresh cases taking the tally to 6,51,508. The death toll from coronavirus has reached to 10,540.
