Bhopal: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has changed the name of Minto Hall in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, last Friday. CM Shivraj has renamed the hall as Kushabhau Thackeray Hall in the BJP Working Committee meeting. CM said, 'Where we are sitting, its name is Minto Hall. Now tell me this earth is yours, this soil is yours, this stone is yours, this ballast is yours, this lime is yours, this slurry is yours, this building is yours, the workers who build it, this sweat is yours and the name of Minto. Many people were sitting in this assembly building. Kushabhau Thackeray is the one who took them here and to the Lok Sabha. Those who created these leaders, who made these workers, who built the Bharatiya Janata Party in the form of a banyan tree in the whole of Madhya Pradesh, hence the name of Minto Hall will be named after Kushabhau Thackeray Ji.'
The demand to rename Minto Hall was gaining momentum since the renaming of Habibganj railway station. Habibganj was renamed as Rani Kamalapati station recently and since then many BJP leaders have made proposals for the new name of Minto Hall. The foundation stone of Minto Hall was laid on 12th November 1909.
It is said that in 1909, Lord Minto, the then Viceroy of India, came to Bhopal and was stopped at Raj Bhavan at that time, although the Viceroy was very angry with the arrangements there. In view of this, the then Nawab Sultan Jahan Begum decided to build a hall in a hurry and got its foundation laid by the Viceroy Lord Minto. It is said that this hall was named Minto Hall after him.
