Mumbai: In a significant breakthrough, the Mumbai Police has apprehended Deepak Bhise, a man wanted in connection with a murder case dating back to 1989, from Nalasopara in Maharashtra's Palghar district. The arrest took place on Friday night, marking the culmination of a three-decade-long pursuit for justice.

Deepak Bhise, now 62 years old, stands accused of murdering Raju Chikna in 1989 and attempting to murder Dharmendra Saroj. According to reports, Bhise was granted bail in 1992 but failed to appear for subsequent court hearings, leading to the court declaring him absconding in 2003.

Despite local speculation suggesting Bhise's demise, the police persisted in their search efforts. The breakthrough came when the police managed to obtain the mobile number of the accused's wife during their investigation. Subsequently, a police team successfully tracked down Bhise to Nalasopara, where the arrest was made.

Residing in the locality with his family, Bhise reportedly took on contracts for tree-cutting. The arrest of the 62-year-old suspect marks a significant development in a case that had remained unsolved for over three decades.

Kandivali police station sub-inspector Nitin Satam stated, "The accused, who is 62 years old now, has been arrested. Further investigation is on." The arrest demonstrates the persistence and dedication of law enforcement in pursuing justice even after an extended period.
