Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya has voiced deep concern regarding the deteriorating law and order situation in West Bengal, particularly in light of the Sandeshkhali issue, emphasizing a perceived lack of respect for women in the state.

"Lamentably, law and order in West Bengal is in shambles... The state exhibits a flagrant disregard for the dignity of women. Regrettably, even the police fail to register complaints when women endure torment... I am perplexed as to the whereabouts of those who once protested with candles," Vijayvargiya conveyed to media representatives on Saturday.

A recent incident highlighted the obstacles faced by a BJP delegation during their investigation into reported cases of sexual harassment and violence in the Sandeshkhali area. The delegation, comprising BJP leaders Annapurna Devi, Pratima Bhowmik, Sunita Duggal, Kavita Patidar, Sangeeta Yadav, Brij Lal, and Agnimitra Paul, was halted by police authorities while en route to Sandeshkhali. Subsequently, they met with Governor CV Ananda Bose after being barred from entering the region.

Following their meeting with the Governor, a member of the delegation expressed their intention to file a petition in the Supreme Court seeking permission to proceed to Sandeshkhali and engage with women protesters.

"We were obstructed on our journey to Sandeshkhali today and had to return. We will approach the Supreme Court to secure permission to visit Sandeshkhali. Our objective is to shed light on the distressing plight of women, children, and newlywed brides who have suffered at the hands of TMC goons and law enforcement," remarked Annapurna Devi, a delegate member, during a press briefing after their meeting with the Governor on Friday.

In Sandeshkhali, women have been demonstrating for several days against alleged atrocities perpetrated by TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh and his associates.

In response to these events, the BJP constituted a six-member committee comprising Union Ministers and Members of Parliament. Their mandate is to visit Sandeshkhali and compile information on reported incidents of sexual harassment and violence against women.
