CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday said that Haryana has full authority over Chandigarh with a separate High Court for the state. Criticizing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, CM Khattar while addressing a press conference said, ''Haryana has jurisdiction over Chandigarh with a separate High Court for the state. It is beyond our comprehension why the Punjab government raised the issue of Chandigarh soon after the elections were over. Only they can tell under whose pressure they are raising this issue.''
Manohar Lal Khattar further said 'The Shah Commission had recommended that Chandigarh should go to Haryana. Because of disagreement over the Supreme Court's 2002 order on Haryana getting water from the Sutlej Yamuna Link canal and that the two states should mutually decide, we will write to the court again as Punjab is inactive on the matter.'
Let us tell you that the conflict between Punjab and Haryana is increasing over Chandigarh. After the claim of the Punjab government on Chandigarh, the political tug of war has once again heated up. While there is opposition in the state to the resolution passed by the AAP government of Punjab in the assembly, people say that Haryana has as much authority over Chandigarh as Punjab has.
