New Delhi: After NRC coming in Assam, different types of statements started coming about it. Demand began to arise in many states of the country. However, other opposition parties, including the Congress, have criticized the government. Assembly elections are due in three states by the end of this year. The BJP has a government in all three states. Chief Ministers of these three states have talked about implementing NRC in their state as well. In view of this, the Congress has now become cautious.

The party has given a clear message to its leaders that the Congress is not opposed to the NRC in principle. In such a situation, the party leaders should not give any opportunity to the opponent to get surrounded by political rhetoric on NRC. Congress is considering the BJP chief ministers' statement of implementing NRC to identify illegal foreign nationals as part of their electoral strategy before the assembly elections of the three states.

According to party strategists, whether Chief Minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar, Jharkhand CM Raghuvar Das or Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis are all talking about implementing NRC just before the election. Congress sources said that it is clear from the statements of BJP Chief Ministers that all efforts are being made to run the gamut of communal polarization through NRC. That is why the party leaders of all the states, especially in the states where elections are to be held, have been warned about this intention of the BJP. The Congress party has theoretically stated itself in favor of NRC.
