NEW DELHI: In Rajasthan, the Congress won three Rajya Sabha seats and the BJP won one seat, while in Karnataka, the saffron party won three seats and the Congress one, however counting of ballots was delayed in Maharashtra and Haryana due to suspected rule violations.
Randeep Surjewala, Mukul Wasnik, and Pramod Tiwari, all from the Congress, were elected to the Rajya Sabha. "Why did they submit an independent candidate when everyone knows we have 126 MLAs on our side?" They intended to try horse-trading, but that didn't work out," Gehlot said to reporters.
Congress received a cross-vote from the BJP. Former minister Ghanshyam Tiwari of the BJP received 43 votes. Subhash Chandra, a BJP-backed independent candidate, was defeated by Congress.
In Karnataka, the ruling BJP had the last laugh as it won all the three Rajya Sabha seats it had contested in, out of four from the state.
The ruling BJP in Karnataka had the final laugh, as it won all the 3 Rajya Sabha seats it had contested in, out of 4 from the state. Only one of the two seats for which the Congress nominated candidates was won by the party. Despite just fielding one candidate, the JD(S) was unable to win due to a lack of votes.
The BJP's Nirmala Sitharaman, actor-politician Jaggesh, and outgoing MLC Lehar Singh Siroya, and the Congress's former Union minister Jairam Ramesh, were all declared elected.
