New Delhi: The Congress chief, Mallikarjun Kharge, expressed optimism about the INDIA bloc's performance in the Lok Sabha elections, predicting that they would secure at least 295 seats. Kharge made these remarks after a meeting of alliance leaders at his residence in New Delhi, where they discussed the post-election strategy.

"We will win at least 295 seats. This is based on people’s feedback, and we are confident of securing more than 290 seats," Kharge stated during the press conference of the INDIA bloc. He elaborated on the agenda of the meeting, highlighting discussions on the alliance's electoral performance, identifying weaknesses, and preparing for the upcoming counting day on June 4.

The Congress chief emphasized the importance of countering the narrative propagated by the BJP and its allies regarding exit polls, asserting the need for transparency and truthfulness.

Senior leaders from various opposition parties attended the meeting, including representatives from the Congress, CPI-M, CPI, DMK, AAP, RJD, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (Sharad Pawar). However, some notable leaders, such as Mamata Banerjee from the TMC and Mehbooba Mufti from the PDP, were unable to attend due to prior commitments or personal reasons.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann participated in the discussions, along with senior Congress leaders like Rahul Gandhi and K C Venugopal. DMK supremo M K Stalin delegated the representation to party leader TR Baalu.

Kharge clarified that the meeting was informal and focused solely on preparations for the counting day, including training party workers and ensuring vigilance regarding EVMs and Form 17C.

The gathering aimed to coordinate efforts among opposition parties and bolster confidence in their collective performance in the Lok Sabha elections. As the final phase of voting concluded on Saturday, anticipation builds for the results day on June 4.
