Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant conducted a comprehensive inspection of the infrastructure initiatives implemented under the Panaji Smart City Mission on Saturday, revealing that approximately ninety per cent of the project's objectives had been achieved by May 31.

Addressing the media during the inspection, Sawant expressed satisfaction with the progress, stating, "We have come here to review the Panaji Smart City, Panaji Municipal Corporation, and PWD projects. We had set a deadline of May 31 for the Panaji Smart City project, and I am pleased to report that around 90 per cent of the work has been successfully completed."

Highlighting the strategic approach taken towards flood management, the Chief Minister emphasized, "We have meticulously developed separate utility and gutter systems to enhance flood resilience. Utilizing all resources provided by the central government, we are steadfast in our commitment to transforming Panjim into a smart city."

In a parallel initiative, Panjim MLA Atanasio Monserrate conducted a site inspection of the ongoing smart city works in Panjim the day prior. During this assessment, Monserrate affirmed that 90 per cent of the major project components had been finalized, with the remaining tasks slated for completion during the monsoon season.

The Integrated Project Management Cell for Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) has been established to spearhead the urban infrastructural advancements and initiatives for Panaji City. Emphasizing the city-specific nature of the Smart City concept, the focus remains on bolstering smart infrastructure and enhancing the overall quality of life for residents. This includes endeavors towards sustainable and inclusive development.

Furthermore, the concept of a smart city extends beyond the mere utilization of digital technologies. It encompasses a holistic approach towards optimizing resource utilization, reducing emissions, and enhancing overall urban functionality. This entails the implementation of smarter urban transport networks, modernized water supply and waste management systems, and more efficient methods for lighting and heating buildings.
