New Delhi: Congress interim president Sonia and son Rahul Gandhi are under the scanner of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the central probe agency, in connection with a money laundering probe related to the high-profile National Herald case. The ED case is based on a lower court order that had allowed the Income Tax Department to probe the National Herald cases and assess Sonia and Rahul. The order was based on a petition filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy in 2013.

However, this is not the first time that questions have been raised about the funding of the National Herald, the newspaper founded by India's first PM Jawaharlal Nehru in 1938. Chandra Bhanu Gupta, one of Nehru's party colleagues, had also alleged that the newspaper for which the money was raised became the mouthpiece of the Prime Minister and later his daughter Indira Gandhi. Let us tell you that Chandra Bhanu Gupta has been a great freedom fighter and four-time Chief Minister of the country, who was considered one of the top money collectors of Congress in North India during the Nehru era. He wrote in his memoir 'Safar Kahin Ruka Nahi, Jhuka Nahi', "I am surprised that the National Herald is now considered the property of the Nehru family. How funds were raised for the National Herald, if a commission of inquiry investigates it, Then there will be a big disclosure. From the very beginning, the policy of the National Herald was to promote Nehru and his daughter Indira Gandhi. For this, the freedom of the press meant attacking anyone who criticized the wrong policies of the Nehru family.''

Let us tell you that Chandra Bhanu Gupta became the third Chief Minister of UP in 1960, but in 1963 he was removed from the post under the Kamaraj scheme. K Kamaraj, who had served as the Chief Minister of the then Madras State, proposed to Nehru that all senior Congress ministers and CMs resign from their posts and work for the party. Chandra Bhanu Gupta again became the CM on March 14, 1967, but had to leave the post on April 2, 1967, after Charan Singh left Congress and formed his own party. Chandra Bhanu Gupta became the CM of UP for the fourth time on 26 February 1969, but he was thrown out a year earlier due to a split in Congress.

What is National Herald Case:-

Let us tell you that BJP Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy had made serious allegations against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, late leader Motilal Vora, journalist Suman Dubey and technocrat Sam Pitroda in the National Herald case. He alleged that it was wrongly acquired through Young India Limited and Congress leaders grabbed assets worth up to Rs 2,000 crore. The investigation of this case was started by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in 2014. Congress has been saying regarding this matter that the purpose of Young India Limited is not to earn profit but it has been formed for charity. So far, in the interrogation, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have given the same answer to the investigating agency in this regard, the entire financial transactions of Congress, National Herald and Young India were seen by Motilal Vora, they (Sonia-Rahul) do not know anything about this.
