New Delhi: The Congress Party's donations to recover from the shock of suffering a humiliating defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections have seen an increase compared to last year. According to the information given to the Election Commission, Congress has received more grants (donations) in the election year (2018-19) than the previous year (2017-18). There has been a 5-fold increase in electoral donations of the Congress in 2018-19 as compared to 2017-18.

The Congress has received Rs 146 crore as donations in 2018-19 as compared to 26 crores in 2017-18. The Congress has sent a 57-page grant report to the Election Commission. However, Congress is still far behind compared to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP has not yet submitted the 2018-19 report to the Election Commission, but the 2017-18 BJP received Rs 1027 crore as donations. The Congress has also been given a grant by the party leaders, including the names of many leaders ranging from the party's interim president Sonia Gandhi, former president Rahul Gandhi, Kapil Sibal, Manish Tiwari, Sushmita Dev, Digvijay Singh, Kumari Selja.
