Chandigarh: In the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Punjab, a quadrangular contest is anticipated, indicating a potential division in the vote bank of various political parties. To strengthen its position, the Congress party has nominated several prominent leaders from the state.

The Congress party has fielded its top leaders in Punjab for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Among the nominees are PPCC President Amarinder Singh Raja Wading, former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, former Minister Vijayinder Singla, and former MLA Kulbir Singh Zira.

A significant electoral battle is expected in Ludhiana, where PPCC President Raja Wadding will contest against BJP candidate Ravneet Bittu. Both Wadding and Bittu began their political careers in the Congress party.

In Gurdaspur, the Congress party has nominated former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, considering the party's strong chances of winning the seat. Randhawa, a four-time MLA, is believed to have the support of the party high command.

Raja Wadding, initially seeking a ticket for his wife from Bathinda, has agreed to contest from any seat in Punjab. Consequently, the party has fielded him against Ravneet Bittu in Ludhiana. Former MP and minister Vijayinder Singla has been nominated by Congress from the Anandpur Sahib seat to bring a Hindu face to the electoral contest.

The nomination of top leaders and the selection of candidates by the Congress party underscore its strategy to consolidate its position in Punjab amidst the intricate electoral dynamics.
