Amritsar: Congress, which suffered a humiliating defeat in the assembly elections due to factionalism in Punjab, still does not seem to be taking lessons. Former Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is being held responsible for this defeat, is constantly active and meeting the leaders. He is once again contending for the post of state president, while a lobby is working against him.

At present, the Congress high command is in a dilemma regarding Punjab and there is a period of deep churning going on before any decision. The reason for this is that the high command does not want the situation before the elections, when the leaders kept dragging their legs among themselves and the party had to face a bad defeat in the election results. Sonia Gandhi had recently met with the leaders of Punjab Congress and it is being said that in a few days a decision can be taken regarding the president in the state.

Meanwhile, there is a discussion that the Congress can play bets on a Hindu leader instead of a Sikh or a Dalit or a Jat Sikh other than Sidhu. The reason for this is that before the elections, the party had made Dalit leader Charanjit Singh Channi as the Chief Minister. Apart from this, Jat Sikh Navjot Singh Sidhu was given the responsibility of the state unit president. But the party could not get the benefit of this and it had to be satisfied with only 17 seats.
