Dehradun: Congress leader and incumbent MLA in Uttarakhand, Rajendra Bhandari, tendered his resignation from the party on Sunday before swiftly joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Bhandari, aged 60 and representing the Badrinath assembly, officially crossed over to the BJP in a ceremony held in New Delhi, graced by the presence of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union Minister Piyush Goyal.

Extending a warm welcome to Bhandari, Union Minister Goyal commended his dedicated service to the people of Badrinath and cited Prime Minister Modi's commitment to eradicating corruption and fostering national development as motivating factors behind Bhandari's decision to join the BJP. Goyal expressed optimism that Bhandari would continue his public service with the same zeal and dedication under the BJP banner.

Chief Minister Dhami echoed Goyal's sentiments, emphasizing that Bhandari's decision to align with the BJP was driven by the party's track record of developmental initiatives. Dhami expressed confidence that Bhandari's inclusion would further bolster the BJP's prospects in Uttarakhand's upcoming elections.

In his resignation letter, Bhandari chose not to delve into the specifics of his departure from the Congress party, opting instead for a succinct one-sentence notification.
