New Delhi: Amid the controversy over the proposed bill to control population in Uttar Pradesh, veteran Congress leader and former Union minister Salman Khurshid has said, "Before enacting a law, the government should tell how many children ministers have." In fact, Congress leader Salman Khurshid along with his wife and former MLA Louise Khurshid arrived in Farrukhabad on Sunday on a two-day visit.

He inaugurated the Covid-19 Testing Centres. Speaking to media persons on the occasion, he said, "The Government should inform how many children their ministers have before bringing in the Population Control Act, then the Bill should be implemented. It may be recalled that according to a draft of the proposed Population Control Bill in UP, those violating the two-child policy will be entitled to contest local body elections, apply for government jobs, promote and get any government subsidy."

State Law Commission has prepared a draft Uttar Pradesh Population (Control, Stabilization and Welfare) Bill, 2021. According to the website of the Uttar Pradesh State Law Commission (UPSLC), "The State Law Commission is working on the control, stabilization and welfare of the population of the State of UP and a draft Bill has been prepared."
