New Delhi: The Congress Working Committee (CWC) met in Delhi on Sunday following an embarrassing performance in the assembly elections held in five states. It was led by the party's working president Sonia Gandhi. At the meeting, it has been decided to move forward under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi. Giving details about the meeting, Congress leader Rajiv Shukla said that all the leaders have sealed the party's progress under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi.
Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge also said that we have faith in Sonia Gandhi's leadership. However, many party leaders once again raised the demand for Rahul Gandhi to be made the national president. After the CWC meeting, Congress spokespersons Randeep Singh Surjewala and DK Shivakumar raised the demand for handing over the responsibility of the party to Rahul. Randeep Surjewala said that every worker of the party wants Rahul Gandhi to lead the Congress. Congress leader DK Shivakumar said that crores of Congress workers like me want Rahul Gandhi to take over as the Congress national president on a full-time basis immediately.
After the humiliating defeat in five states, Congress is going to organise a Chintan Shivir in April. After this, internal elections are going to be held in the Congress party on August 20, on the basis of which the next party president will be elected.
