Bangalore: The mega meeting of the Congress Legislative Party concluded in Bangalore on today, May 25.
It was onn May 18 that Chief Minster Siddaramaiah was elected unanimously as the Congress Legislative Party leader in Karnataka after the Congress party finalised its Chief Minster candidate following days of deliberation after a landmark victory in Karnataka.
Siddaramaiah's name was proposed by Congress leaders RV Deshpande, HK Patil, MB Patil, and Lakshmi Hebbalkar.
Shivakumar makes a motion to choose Siddaramaiah to lead the CLP. It received unanimous support from every member.
On May 20, Siddaramaiah took the oath of office as chief minister and DK Shivakumar as his deputy.
At the Vidhana Soudha's office of Speaker Deshpande, former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy also took the oath of office as a legislator.
In the 224-member Karnataka Assembly elections on May 10, Congress won 135 seats, upsetting the governing BJP, which received 66 seats from the only southern state it possessed.
In the Indian National Congress, Siddaramaiah has held several key positions. He served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka from 2004 to 2006 and again from 2012 to 2013. In 2013, he became the Chief Minister of Karnataka, leading the Congress to victory in the state assembly elections. Siddaramaiah's tenure as Chief Minister was marked by several notable initiatives and policies, including the introduction of the controversial Anti-Superstition Bill and the establishment of the Indira Canteens, which provided affordable meals to the urban poor.
