New Delhi: The Congress has criticized the statement on mob lynching of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat. The Congress has described his statement as insensitive. Anand Sharma, deputy leader and spokesperson of Congress in Rajya Sabha, said that "the issue is not about Europe or India, English or Hindi. The killing of innocent, helpless people by an angry mob is unacceptable to humanity. Language is of no importance. He demanded clarification from Bhagwat that he supports or condemns such violence".

Senior CPI (M) leader Brinda Karat said, "If the RSS chief is truthful, then the Supreme Court has tarnished the most image because, on July 2018, the Supreme Court had taken cognizance of the mob lynching happening in the country and gave eight-ten directions to the government". None of these was implemented. AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi said, 'We have MPs who want Godse here. Nothing can tarnish the image of India bigger than the ideology that killed Gandhi or Tabrez".

"Bhagwat is not asking to stop lynching, he is saying do not say it like that. In fact, Sangh chief Bhagwat said during the Dussehra rally that nowadays the term lynching is not a part of Indian tradition. The term is being used to discredit India and Hindu society. He said that anywhere in the country, when an incident of some people from one community attacking someone from another community comes to light, then an entire community is to be blamed for it. Such incidents are happening from both sides, but this has never been the original trend of India".
