Bengaluru: Karnataka's ruling BJP has launched a stinging attack on the opposition Congress for opposing the proposed anti-conversion law, which will be debated in the winter session beginning Monday in Belagavi.

The BJP has gone to social media to criticise the Congress for forsaking the community's broader interests for political gain in a series of posts. "If anti-conversion legislation is passed, one segment of society will suffer. It has the potential to harm your supreme leader more than anything else (Sonia Gandhi). "Political gain is more important to you than Hindu interests," the party's post stated.

Within Congress, there is a rivalry to oppose the anti-conversion measure. It was opposition leader Siddaramaiah a few days ago, and now it's Karnataka Congress President D.K. Shivakumar's time. You were the one who was willing to illegally construct a monolithic Jesus statue in Kanakapura in order to appease the high command. "Your resistance comes as no surprise," the BJP's official Twitter account tweeted.

The BJP went on to say that Congress politicians who celebrated Tipu Jayanti -- a warrior king from Mysuru who fought Britishers -- couldn't expect anything greater from them. The BJP opposes Tipu Sultan, claiming that Hindus are being converted to Islam in large numbers.
