Raipur: In a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized his response to questions posed by Rahul Gandhi regarding the violence in Manipur. Kharge highlighted that instead of addressing the concerns, PM Modi resorted to mocking "Nehru and the Congress" during his Lok Sabha speech in response to a no-confidence motion.

Speaking at the 'Bharose Ka Sammelan' event in Chhattisgarh's Janjgir district, Kharge emphasized the BJP's claim of PM Modi having done everything. He pointed out that PM Modi evaded answering questions about the Manipur situation posed by Rahul Gandhi and other leaders, opting instead to make fun of Nehru and Congress leaders. Kharge questioned PM Modi's educational background, mentioning that both he and Amit Shah studied in government schools established by the Congress.

Kharge further criticized PM Modi for drawing comparisons between the situations in Manipur and Chhattisgarh, deeming it an insult to the people of Chhattisgarh. He referred to Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel as having a magical lamp like Aladdin, indicating that Baghel can fulfill the people's demands. He accused PM Modi of avoiding a visit to Manipur and prioritizing election campaigns over addressing the issues there.

Kharge used the occasion to launch the party's campaign in Chhattisgarh, which is slated to have elections later this year. Despite a significant victory in the 2018 assembly polls, Congress managed to secure only two out of six seats in Janjgir-Champa district. The upcoming elections in states like Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan will set the groundwork for the 2024 general elections.

As part of his campaign trail, Kharge is scheduled to visit Telangana on August 18, Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh on August 22, and Jaipur in Rajasthan on August 23. These visits will shape the political landscape for the upcoming elections and set the tone for the 2024 general elections.
