Guwahati: On Tuesday morning, Sivasagar MLA and Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi congratulated the Congress party through a tweet. He said the Congress has taken a good political step by deciding not to stick with the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).

The Congress had joined hands with the AIUDF and some other political organizations in Assam before the last assembly elections. However, the saffron party came to power in Assam for the second time in a row. It is noteworthy that Dev, daughter of seven-time MP Santosh Mohan Dev and former Silchar MLA Bithika Dev, submitted her resignation from Congress to party president Sonia Gandhi on August 15. and joined TMC.

All India Mahila Congress President and former Silchar MP Sushmita Dev resigned from Congress and joined Trinamool Congress. After Sushmita broke ties with the Grand Old Party, many people associated with the party left and jumped into the TMC. Besides this, at least two other Congress MLAs - Rupjyoti Kurmi and Sushant Borgohain - quit the Congress and joined the saffron brigade after the assembly elections in Assam this year.
