Congress to speak on P Chidambaram's arrest today, Surjewala to hold press conference

NEW DELHI: Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, accused in INX media-related corruption and money laundering cases, was arrested by the CBI late Wednesday night. He will be produced before the court today. On the other hand, Congress is scheduled to hold a press conference today on the issue. Congress party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala will hold a press conference today at 10 am.

The press conference has been held at the party headquarters on behalf of the Congress. Congress leader and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram has been taken into custody by the CBI on Wednesday. Chidambaram was kept at the CBI headquarters overnight. He was also medically examined here. The CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) team is scheduled to produce Chidambaram before the court today after his arrest on Wednesday. The CBI is likely to seek Chidambaram's 14-day remand.

Chidambaram on Wednesday described himself as innocent and said he was implicated. P. Chidambaram said he has no charges against him in the INX media case. Chidambaram said that in the last 24 hours, a lot of confusion was created about him. There is no charge sheet against him and his family in this case. He said, democracy is the basic freedom. Chidambaram said if he is asked to choose between life and freedom, he will choose Azad.
