New Delhi: After losing badly in the assembly elections of 5 states, the Congress party's position is now seen to be changing. Now the party has decided to resort to new technology for organisational elections. The traditional method of the Congressional membership campaign has now been converted to e-subscription through the app. Now, through the same, a plan is also being prepared to hold an online election among the members. The election of the next Congress president is proposed by August-September. Before that, the electoral collegium has to be formed. For this, the Congress party is considering resorting to e-voting. The collegium will comprise members of the AICC and PCC.
More than 50 AICC members and PCC representatives will be eligible to contest the elections. About 8,000 to 9,000 party office-bearers are expected to meet these eligibility criteria for more than three lakh nominations. The membership drive will end on April 15 in places other than UP. Congress is hopeful that there will be more than six crore party members. The campaign is being monitored by the Madhusudan Mistry-led Central Election Authority. It is being carried out through the State Returning Officer (PRO) and party nominators in coordination with the Praveen Chakravarty-led AICC Data Analytical Department. It is also learnt that along with e-subscription, it has been decided to convert the subscription collected in paper format into digital formats recently.
Rahul Gandhi has internally described the e-drive as an X-ray of the Congress organisation. Organizers say that the verified digital membership will get rid of fake subscriptions. The Congress membership drive and the upcoming organisational elections this time arouse a special interest for the party's change seekers in the wake of the party's demand for fair organisational elections, including the post of party president and the CWC. Organisers say the drive, through a new Android "Congress Membership App," is only available to the leaders, office bearers and workers of the sanctioned Congress party. Only the approved enrollees go door-to-door for membership. A foolproof, verified and strict digital subscription program does not accept subscriptions through the "missed call" method.
