New Delhi: The Congress party unveiled its manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections, placing a strong emphasis on equity and justice. The party declared its commitment to upholding the Indian Constitution as the guiding principle. Organized into various sections catering to diverse demographics, the manifesto pledges a range of offerings. While promising employment opportunities with a salary of Rs 1 lakh for youth, Congress also commits to conducting a caste census if elected.

  • Nationwide Socio-Economic and Caste Census: Congress pledges to conduct a comprehensive census to enumerate castes and sub-castes along with their socio-economic conditions. This data will inform the party's affirmative action agenda.
  • Reservation Amendment: Congress proposes to amend the Constitution to raise the 50 per cent cap on reservations for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs). Additionally, the existing 10 per cent reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) will be implemented across all castes and communities without discrimination.
  • Protection of Linguistic Minorities: The manifesto ensures the rights of linguistic minorities as guaranteed under Article 15, 16, 29, and 30 of the Constitution. It promises freedom of choice concerning dress, food, language, and personal laws for minorities.
  • Right to Apprenticeship Act: Congress pledges to enact a new Right to Apprenticeship Act, providing one-year apprenticeship opportunities in either private or public sector companies to diploma holders or college graduates under the age of 25. The youth will receive Rs 1 lakh per year, aiming to enhance skills and employability, thereby creating numerous job opportunities. Additionally, the party vows to eliminate application fees for government examinations and posts.
  • Enhanced Social Assistance: Congress commits to increasing the central government's contribution to pensions for senior citizens, widows, and persons with disabilities under the National Social Assistance Programme to Rs 1,000 per month, up from the current Rs 200-Rs 500 per month.
