Considering less positivity rates, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu further relaxes lockdown

Jagan Reddy-led Andhra Pradesh Govt on Monday announced further relaxation of lockdown in eight districts of the state which reported a Covid-19 positivity rate of less than 5 percent with effect from July 1. The southern state will relaxation covid-19-induced curfew from 6 am to 9 pm in 8 districts, starting July 1. In other districts where positivity rate is high, that is, Ubhaya, Godavari, Krishna, Chittoor and Prakasam-, curfew will be from 6 pm to 6 am.

An official release from the chief minister's office said the lockdown, which is presently in force from 6pm to 6am the following day, would be relaxed by three more hours in Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Guntur, Nellore, Kadapa, Anantapur and Kurnool.

In five other districts, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Prakasam and Chittoor, the current lockdown restrictions would continue as the Covid-19 positivity rate in these districts is still above 5 percent. 'A decision on further relaxation of lockdown in these districts would be taken after reviewing the Covid-19 situation after July 7,' the CMO release said.

Tamil Nadu:  Even as its daily Covid-19 tally remaining well above the 5,000-mark and the virus’s Delta Plus variant threatening a third wave, the Tamil Nadu government has also  relaxed lockdown rules as it eased norms for outdoor activity. As per the latest state notification, the existing curbs have been extended till July 5 but there are quite a few relaxations for citizens in Chennai and neighbouring districts. Shopping malls, places of worship, apparel, and jewellery shops and gyms can open for business.
