Katihar: In a shocking incident, a conspiracy to lure a tribal woman to Islam has been busted in Bihar's Katihar district. It is alleged that the woman was also married to a Muslim man under pressure. The victim's name is Mary Marandi. Mary is a teacher who has also been the head of the panchayat earlier. On the complaint of Mary, the police have registered an FIR and arrested her husband Noeed Akhtar. Noeed is also accused of assaulting his wife, including two brothers, by referring to a small caste and abusing them with casteist words.

According to a report received, the case is from Lachaur village of Sharif Nagar Panchayat. In her complaint to the police, the victim said she got married to Noeed Akhtar in December 2009. It is alleged that Noeed had lured the victim into this marriage as well. A few days later, Noeed returned to his original form. He started pressurising the victim to accept Islam. Mary Marandi was beaten up for refusing this. Mary also says that those who tortured her include Noeed's brothers Munir Alam and Nausar Alam. In the complaint, the victim has stated that she was described by the criminals as belonging to a small caste. Along with the assault, Mary was also given racist abuses. At the same time, she was also threatened with death if she did not change her religion. Meanwhile, Mary Marandi became the mother of a daughter. But the atrocities did not subside. She started receiving threats that her daughter would be killed if she did not change her religion.

According to the victim, she was also a teacher earlier. But Noeed Alam forced his wife to quit her job. Later, Mary Marandi became the head of the panchayat on a seat reserved for Scheduled Tribes. However, even after all this, Noeed continued to torture his wife. In the complaint of Mary Marandi, it has been told that the criminals used to torture her and also demanded money. A few days later, Noeed started demanding the same money from Mary's parents. After getting the money, Noeed used to keep quiet for a few days and start fighting again with new excuses. His brothers Nausar Alam and Munir Alam also supported him in this assault. The victim has also mentioned an incident of assault by the three criminal brothers in the complaint. Mary Marandi claims that she made a lot of effort to resolve the dispute in the family. A panchayat was also held twice in the village regarding this matter, but no solution was found and Noeed and his brothers remained firm on their actions. Finally, the woman lodged a complaint of harassment with the Balrampur police station. Station House Officer Balrampur Prahlad Yadav said that Noeed Akhtar has been arrested on the complaint of the woman. The matter is under investigation.
