New Delhi: Rajnath Singh, Defence minister of India, is scheduled to visit Nigeria from May 28 to 30, his office announced on Friday. This will be the first time an Indian defence minister is visiting an African nation. With Singh's visit, India hopes to improve relations and look into possible defence collaboration.

The arrival of Singh will coincide with Bola Ahmed Tinubu's inauguration as president of Nigeria. Additionally, he will meet with outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari, demonstrating India's commitment to upholding the highest level of diplomatic ties.

Singh will be accompanied by senior defence ministry representatives from India and executives from significant Nigerian defence public sector undertakings (PSUs) in an effort to forge closer defence ties and explore joint venture possibilities.

To determine possible areas where India's defence industry may satisfy Nigeria's needs, the group intends to meet with members of the country's military and business sectors.
