The Madras High Court on Monday stretched the deadline for the payment first instalment of school fees to September 30 in Tamilnadu. The judges also warned that if the schools tried to take more than 40% of the fees, they may have to face the court of contempt. As per the reports, the court cleared it strictly because the state government has received several complaints from aggrieved parents, who are being forced to pay the entire annual school fees. Now if the school demands to pay entire fees in one go, it will be considered as a direct violation of a court order dated July 17.

In the order, the Bench allowed the schools to collect only 40% of the annual fees in the first installment by August 31. The remaining 35% shall be collected within two months from the date of the reopening of the schools. Taking note of the submission made by the government’s counsel, the bench directed the School Education Department to complete an inquiry into the complaints within two weeks and present a report to the court by September 23.

Dheeraj Kumar who is the Principal Secretary of School education explained to the court that to receive complains separate email IDs have been created and till now 74 complaints have been received on Friday and Saturday. He also added that earlier, the administration had issued circulars to all district education offices to conduct an inquiry into the violations of the court order and after that, the department had received 34 complaints on schools. As a result of which Show Cause notices have been sent to 29 schools and remaining complaints have been forwarded to the Regional Director of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
