New York: US President Donald Trump's statement on George Floyd has once again given rise to controversy. On Friday, Trump said that we all saw what happened last week. Hopefully George will be looking down from above and saying that whatever is happening in this country, it is getting quite good. This is a great day for them and all of us with equality.
It is noteworthy that a black African-American citizen, George Floyd, was killed at the hands of a white policeman in Minneapolis, US last week, which has led to protests across the US since. Trump's remarks on George during a White House briefing on Friday caused a furore. Everyone was surprised as to why Trump called it a great day for George. In his briefing, Trump also commented on the economy and the corona vaccine, along with George Floyd. But everyone was surprised by his great day's comment.
However, the White House in its statement has dismissed Trump's great-day interpretation as a lie. Ben Williamson, a senior White House communications adviser, wrote on Twitter that, "It was very clear that the president was talking about a fight for justice and equal treatment under the law." He further said that President Trump is being unnecessarily criticized on this matter.
