When Lucas Paqueta struck in the second half it was enough for defending champions Brazil to take off strong Chile 1-0 on Friday and reserved a spot in the semi-final showdown of Copa America with Peru.  Second-half substitute Paqueta made an instantaneous impact, finding a gap in Chile’s defense and firing into the back of the net in the 47th minute to put Brazil up 1-0. Less than two minutes later, however, Brazil was reduced to 10 men when Gabriel Jesus’s reckless high kick caught Eugenio Mena in the face and enticed a straight red card. In the end, it doesn't matter how hard they tried because they couldn't capitalize on their main position.

In another quarter-final fixture Peru registered a win over Paraguay covering penalties, Brazil will have to face the unpredictable Blanquirroja in the semi-final of the Copa America 2021. Although Brazil came out winning against Chile, it was not the kind of performance that we had gotten used to from the Selecao. They were dominated by Chile, which had more mastery and registered more goal attempts.

At the first half of the game, Neymar was at the heart of Brazil's attack and formulated a great chance in the 20th minute, but Roberto Firmino completely abstained a simple tap-in. At the other end of the pitch, Eduardo Vargas looked terrible and had a shot saved by Ederson. With a one-man advantage, Chile started growing more substantial in the last half hour of the game but was resisted by Brazil's solid defense. And Brazil made it to the Semis of Copa America 2021.
