New Delhi: Nearly 400 employees of Parliament in India's capital Delhi have been found positive during corona testing. A surprise test was conducted on January 6-7 in view of the sudden rise in new cases in Delhi. According to sources, 65 persons from Rajya Sabha Secretariat, about 200 from Lok Sabha Secretariat and 133 others working in Parliament have been found corona positive during January 4 to 8. Keeping this in mind, Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu has issued new guidelines.

The same Rajya Sabha Secretariat has banned the presence of officers and staff. As per the latest instructions, 50 per cent of officers and employees below the post of Under Secretary/Executive Officer will have to work from home by the end of this month. They constitute about 65 per cent of the total employees.

The same disabled and pregnant women are exempted from being present in the office. All official meetings will be virtual. Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu directed that all the 1300 officers and employees be given corona examinations. Strict monitoring should be maintained when their infection is cured and assisted in hospitalization and treatment if required. On Saturday evening, 20,181 new corona cases were registered in the national capital, the highest in the last 8 months. New cases have taken the infection figure in the city to 15 lakh 26 thousand 979. And with 7 more deaths, the total figure of deaths has increased to 25,143.
