Supreme Court says "Corona patients are treated like animals, bodies being found from garbage"

New Delhi: A three-judge bench of the apex court took suo moto cognizance of the corona patients' negligence after their deaths. The court has said that coronavirus patients are being treated worse than animals and bodies are being recovered from the garbage. The court has sought reports from four states in this case.

The apex court said that hospitals across the country were not taking proper care of the patients who died of coronavirus and were not informing the family members about their deaths. The apex court has said that in some cases the family is not even being allowed to attend the funeral. The Supreme Court has sent notices from Delhi's LNJP Hospital and other government hospitals to reply on the matter. The court has asked the chief secretaries of the states to submit a report on the status of the patient management system.

The court termed the situation in Delhi as 'horrifying', referring to coronavirus patients forced to live among dead bodies in hospitals. The Supreme Court said that hospitals are not taking proper care in keeping the dead bodies and not even informing their families about the deaths. The court has asked Delhi, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu to respond in a case of automatic cognizance of not properly supervising the patients of Covid-19. In this case, the court has asked the Center to reply by June 17 on the steps taken to manage the corpses of corona patients and infected people.
