Coronavirus spread in China has caught the pharma industry of the state. Apart from this, the supply of raw materials of medicines from China has stopped since the outbreak of the virus. 20% of the raw material stock in the BBN (Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh), which manufactures 45 percent of the drugs of the country, is over. With this, drug makers are anticipating that if raw material does not come from China even after a week, production will be hit. Production will come to a standstill in many industries. These days, the industry is running itself with stock raw material.

In the coming times, there may be a shortage of life-saving drugs including BP, sugar, heart, cancer. In addition, there are about 750 pharma industries in the state. There is a turnover of 30 thousand crores annually, in which medicines worth 15 thousand crores are exported. Bulk drug dealers, including pharmaceutical companies in the country, have a nominal stock of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Currently, 67 types of APIs are supplied from China. Apart from this, if the situation in China does not improve, then forcing industries will have to get the raw material from Europe. The same raw material coming from Europe is expensive, which will also increase the prices of medicines manufactured here.

Harish Aggarwal, chairman of CII Himachal Chapter, said that the pharma industries are beginning to be impacted. Apart from this, the pharma industries will have to face a crisis due to non-supply from China. With this, if the raw material is imported from Europe, then the prices of medicines will also increase. The stock has gone down by 20 percent, which will continue to increase daily. Dr. Rajesh Gupta, President of Himachal Drug Manufacturers Association has raised the burning issue of supply of bulk drug APIs to the Center.
