At least 11,000 health care workers from the anti-Pakistan polio campaign, who were mobilized to fight the epidemic corona, have lost their jobs in June due to restructuring of the polio program and fund cuts.

Arab News has revealed a big statement of Rana Muhammad Safdar, the coordinator of the country's National Emergency Operations Center. In which he said that the highest number of women were those who were performing their duties in the provinces of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Safdar said that so far this year Pakistan has registered 64 polio cases, out of which Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has the highest number of 22, followed by Sindh (21). The decision to reduce polio workers was made at the end of last year.

Also during a review in Islamabad, attended by Dr Zafar Mirza, former Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health, it was decided to change the approach to the event and the way the on-ground teams function. Health care workers will be appointed for the entire month and will be paid up to Rs 25,000. The nature of employment has changed now. Under the new rules, women health care workers in Sindh and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa kept working for only ten days, and are paid daily amount instead of the whole month.
